Two national beach soccer titles
Erciş Belediyespor won the 2018 TFF Beach Soccer League, defeating Alanya Belediyespor 7–6 in the final in Alanya. It was a match that brought the town’s name to the top of Turkish beach soccer.
In 2023, Ömeroğulları Ercişspor beat CityLine Alanya Belediye Spor 4–3 in the final to take the national title. Its players Muhammed Ali Mokhtari and Sedat Çölgezen received the top scorer and most valuable goalkeeper awards respectively. These are beach soccer achievements, distinct from league football played on grass.
Taha Yasin Zortul: two European medals
Taha Yasin Zortul, a student at Erciş Social Sciences High School, earned European arm-wrestling medals in 2026. Anadolu Agency’s report of 26 May records gold with his left arm and silver with his right in the age-15 category at the European Championships in Budapest.
His path to the national team also included a 45 kg title at the Turkish Championships in Yalova. A school student reaching international competition through regular training adds an individual chapter to the town’s sporting story.
Muay thai training that began with one pair of gloves
A 2016 Anadolu Agency report carried by TRT Haber describes coach and physical education teacher Sinan Ağlar’s work in Erciş. Starting with an effort to support children affected by the earthquake through sport, he recalls progressing from local to national success.

Ulupamir: a meeting place for equestrian sport
In Ulupamir, kökbörü brings Kyrgyz cultural life and sport together. The neighbourhood hosted the 2023 Turkish Kökbörü Championships, with equestrian wrestling and folk dancing also part of the event.
That year’s winner was Yozgat Calın Kökbörü. Ulupamir’s role in this record is as host, rather than the title-winning team. The cover photograph shows the 2022 cultural festival, not that championship.
