Figures in the stone
The Erciş Anonymous Tomb is also known as Zortul. The Cultural Portal records a double-headed eagle, lions and birds among its carvings. Looking at these alongside the geometric structure offers a different experience from seeing the monument only at a distance.
What is known, and what is not
Without an inscription, the person commemorated is not known with certainty. The source suggests an early fifteenth-century date in the Qara Qoyunlu period. Keeping that uncertainty visible is part of telling the monument’s story responsibly.
From the archive to the renewed building
The Cultural Portal entry added in 2013 preserves an earlier view; its publication date is not the photograph’s capture date. On 13 November 2024, the district governor’s office reported that restoration of the building, partly damaged in the 2011 earthquake, was nearing completion.
The Google Maps photograph dated January 2025 shows a pale roof and a landscaped courtyard. Together, the views reveal both the continuing stone ornament and changes to the roof and surroundings.

Ask local authorities about current access and any work at the site. A route suggestion is not permission to enter private land. Observe without climbing the historic stonework or touching carved surfaces, and respect property boundaries.
